Avalon Pagan Centre &Nature Sanctuary

About

For the love of Nature.

Avalon Pagan Centre is nestled in a hidden valley deep in the Cape Breton Highlands, surrounded by thousands of acres of wilderness protected land. The property itself consists of acres of beautiful woodland, criss-crossed by brooks and streams, with a pond and spacious common area in front of the main lodge. Our network of forest trails range from a gentle stroll to a challenging mountain hike. We are completely off-grid, generating our own electricity through micro-hydro and solar. For camping guests, we have a self-contained, fixed-roof washroom cabin with two toilets and a shower room. Our woodland campsites have plenty of room for your tent, and we have fire pits available for camp cooking and bonfires. We are a provincially licensed campground, but offer deeply discounted rates for Avalon Pagan Centre registered guests: $5 per adult, per night (kids camp free), or work barter to waive this fee to zero. Once you have registered, you can contact us to book a camp site.

Wildlife

As we are fortunate enough to back onto a provincially protected wilderness area, as well as being surrounded by Crown land, we have thousands of acres of natural woodland and Cape Breton Highlands (Acadian forest) habitat literally on our doorstep. Consequently, wildlife sightings are high in our area. Moose, deer, bear, coyotes, foxes, snowshoe hares, rabbits, eagles, ravens, owls and ruffed grouse are commonplace. We have also seen the pine marten (an endangered species), a fisher, a bobcat, and of course the Canadian beaver. Our woods, wetlands and adjacent old growth forest is home to many species of evergreen and hardwood trees, including balsam fir, white pine, Norway spruce, black spruce, maple, yellow birch, silver birch, oak, wild cherry and many more. The common area and wildflower/herb gardens are a wealth of herbs and flowers, some edible, some medicinal, all 100% organic and mostly native to the region. Come stroll our land and find the serenity of spirit that only Nature can bestow.

Why Register?

Avalon Pagan Centre is only open to registered guests. Registration is $25 a year. If you would like to apply for work barter, just send us a note at info@avalonpagancentre.com.
